A sneak peek at the very first episode of Bubble Puppets: The Dramatic Series. Series 1, Episode 1

The story begins at Dover’s Club, where Penelope is hoping to meet “just a guy” and instead encounters Zakk… a soft-hearted singer with too much honesty, not enough emotional strategy, and a song that may accidentally change everything.

Episode 1 sets the stage for the musical chaos to come: awkward introductions, dramatic overreactions, strange club politics, a possibly missing pair of shoes, and the first sparks of a romance that will eventually lead to… well, cloning. And maybe time travel.

The Dramatic Series is wrapping up production, and we’re nearly there.

Dover’s Club is a bar on a street where the decisions are bad and the music is good. It’s run by a woman who owns the building, the stage, and most of the regrets. Her ex manages the place. That’s fine. It’s fine.

The people who end up there are the kind of people who end up places; a folk-rock everyman who is honest to a fault, a performer who arrived from Sweden looking for something specific and found something else entirely, a cosmic entity who has been everywhere and is tired in a way that takes millions of years to earn, a goth sock puppet who is devoted to someone who will never love him back, and a farm worker from Colorado who is just genuinely happy to be around friends.

There’s also a rat who plays guitar. He’s everyone’s favourite.

Nobody learns their lesson. Nobody really grows. But something accumulates, across 32 episodes and 41 original songs,  that feels, by the end, like it was always heading somewhere, and perhaps used too many commas.
